MCEP has been monitoring and following legislative proposals pertaining to the epidemic griping our state in recent years. MCEP was invited to testify at the House Health Policy Committee on Wednesday, April 19, 2017. This day coincided with the College’s Leadership Development Program Day in Lansing event. There were eight cohorts of the LDP class in attendance for the day and they witnessed first hand Dr. Rami Khoury, Dr. Jake Manteuffel, and Dr. Melissa Barton speak before the committee.

In result of that testimony, in December of 2017, Lt. Governor Brian Calley signed into law as passed by the Michigan Legislature, a 10-bill package of legislation aimed to curb Michigan’s persistent and increasing substance abuse and drug diversion problem.  The 10-bill package represents a comprehensive approach to addressing the abuse and diversion issue, https://www.michigan.gov/documents/lara/LARA_DHHS_Opioid_Laws_FAQ_05-02-2018_622175_7.pdf
